We have been operating in Rwanda since 2012, operating a centre that helps vulnerable Children protecting future generations of children from Sexual Violence. We work with the District level Police and Government Agencies to respond to victims of sexual violence in Rwanda.

Rwanda for Justice brings Criminal Scene Investigation Training.

This was a two-day medico-legal training that involved judges, prosecutors,lawyers, isange one stop center medical team, clinical psychologists, investigators and Rwanda for justice team, The main objective of the training was to teach investigation techniques relating to sexual crimes and GBV widely, child friendly questioning environments, investigation and prosecution. and another big aim was to help the trainees to teach them how to use practical implications of the medical examination of victims and suspects,victims using biological and physical evidence derived from reports in case preparation.
NPPA and Rwanda for Justice Combine to Provide Medico Legal Training

Rwanda for Justice conducted a training in partnership with the NPPA and US State Department in medico-legal interventions in child abuse and GBV investigation and prosecution. This training will continue into 2017 across all provinces focusing on practical implementation thereafter.
Rwanda for Justice Conducts Community Awareness Sessions on Child Sexual Violence Sensitisation in Huye District.

Rwanda for Justice has carried out community sensitisation in the southern province in the Huye District where eleven villages consisting of 377 people were taught about child sexual violence, safety plan and how to protect both the internal and external evidence for the sexually abused child in their communities.
Rwanda for Justice has carried out the training with the Isange one stop center on Trauma focused cognitive behaviour therapy TF-CBT

This training was focused on helping people who give out services from the Isange one stop center to learn how to help the victim in courts using the psychological profiling as evidence for the victim and also to witness testimony.
Rwanda for Justice Family Day

Rwanda for Justice has carried out victim and family day at Rwanda for justice Humura centre, Karubanda in Huye district .Where about 42 parents and 65 victims were gathered together in order to make them understand that they are not alone and identify new referrals and potential repeat victimization. Parents provided important coping strategies for stress and trauma relating to the abuse.
Rwanda for Justice Particiapte in National Training on Prosecuting Child Sex Offenders.

Rwanda for Justice participated in Training organised by the International Justice Mission. The training focused on the prosecution of child sex offenders looking at best practices in evidence collection and presentation.
Isange One Stop Centre Arrives in Huye

The Humura Centre has been supporting the child abuse victims in Huye sonce 2012 processing over 350 cases. With the opening of the One Stop in Huye, Rwanda for Justice are closing the response centre to focus on National training for the Judiciary
Rwanda for Justice Join the District Judicial Committee
February 2015
Rwanda for Justice were invited to be a founding member of the District of Huye Judicial Committee. The Committee is headed by the Masion Access de Justice (MAJ) and consists of senior police and juducial officers, district prosecutors and the head of the correstinal services. heaim of the committee is to ensure the rue of law is upheld in different areas of the judicial process.
New cases received over Christmas
1 January 2015
We received 13 new cases over the Chirstmas break. EW are now processing these and interviewing the children and working with investigators to bring the perpetrators to justice.
National Conference on Child Sexual Violence successful
December 2014
The National Conference for GBV was a success with many partners and Ministries coming together to discuss the challenges and ways forward to fight against child sexual violence in Rwanda.
Today we have received another 2 cases and the files were issued to prosecutors within 24hrs
1 October 2014
At 5am this morning the emergency response team received 2 new cases. The two young children were from the same familiy and we were already treating one of the children for trauma. They had ben abused again by a different perpetrator. They are in custody and the files has been submitted to prosecutors.
Team receive another 6 child rape cases at Humura Centre

The team received 6 new cases today. The age range of the victims are between 5-14yrs and from 3 different sectors of the District of Huye. THe team have already conducted forensic interviews and are collaborating with the investigators to provide prosecutable evidence to the Prosecution.
Team receive 8 new child abuse cases this week

The team have received 8 new cases this week from the District Hospital. We are now interviewingthe victims and booking them in for therapy.
Justice prevails! Perpetrator receives 10yr Sentence for Raping a 2 yr old child

The perptrator was sentenced at the Huye Court for 10yrs. He was found guilty of raping the child and is now serving his sentence. THe RFJ Team worked with the police and assisted in providing a forensic interview video evidence to the porsecution.
Case workers respond to a backlog of 56 cases this week

This week the team are responding to 56 cases that we have recieved from the District Hospital in Huye. The cases are spread across the whole district.

Rwada for Justice will partner with Canadian NGO CECI to bring together Centreal Government, NGO's and Stakeholders to look at ways of improving medical examinations of victims and investigating sexual crimes against children.
Humura has its first gathering for victims and their families.
August 2014
The Humura Centre welcomed the victims and their famlies for the first time as a group today. It was a special time of refelction and healing for the families and the children. THe young children had a time of music and games and the teenagers had reflection groups and theatre sessions to express their feelings. The parents also had a reflection group and were able to share their hearts with others in the same position for the first time, We then had a time of prayer for healing and restoration.
